Figure Drawing, Class 4

Maux modeled today. We started out with 5, two-minute warm-up drawings, a ten-minute drawing, several twenty-minute drawings, etc.
We talked a bit about Pontormo's elongated figures and the mannerist origins of fashion drawing.

Jordan drew a contour and a couple of gesture drawings, one with his left hand.

The out of class suggested drawing was to do a self-portrait. Steven approached the project through contour drawing in the mirror.

This week's assignment is to draw your foot or someone else's foot.
This portrait of a Bali farmer was sent to me by Sammy, a student from portrait drawing about a year ago. One time she showed me her portfolio of figure drawings and the faces were blank ovals. Then she showed me her work in portrait drawing. That day we were discussing how hair reflects light. I told her the development from figures without faces to strictly portraits was quite interesting and that she was developing a strong portfolio. Her response was that the only portfolio she was interested in was a stock portfolio. She occasionally sends me a drawing.
